Injecting colour on a white canvas

This Hampstead semi-detached house benefited from our colour consultation service. A number of structural alterations in the last decade addressed some of the interior space planning, the ground floor was opened up and extended, a modern Bulthaup kitchen was fitted into an open plan floor with kitchen, dining, family snug and garden room.

A rear extension added two bathrooms and the roof conversion created a generous master suite with bedroom, bathroom and dressing room. While these works added valuable additional space, the interior colour was kept white and plain.

The clients appointed us for a full house Interior Design project. The brief was to sympathetically update the interiors with a view to creating a vibrant, practical and sustainable home suited to the lifestyle of this family with three young children. In the first step of the consultation process we agreed a mood board of ideas for colour injection throughout the house. We picked a few core colours which thread through all spaces and are then complemented by smaller doses of recurring colour splashes. Our approach is always subtle, natural and using a vast variety of objects which carry our colour moodboard to avoid a contrived and obvious colour styling.

A wealth of knowledge

Colour Consultation Hampstead

Whether clients hire us exclusively to offer consultation help to pick new colour for the home or as part of a full renovation project, the process is always holistic and very personal to each property. The first step is to study and analyse all the spaces in the house. We consider the architecture and its details, we look at the artworks and furniture, the materials, fabrics and rugs, the toys, books and accessories. Then we ask questions and listen to the clients’ tastes, lifestyle and aspirations and take the time to engage in conversations, sharing our analysis of the spaces.

We propose where and how to add splashes of colour, where we might use textures, wallpapers or other materials.  Claudia’s approach is to carefully curate a colour palette which will feel organically grown and not look ‘designed’; the key is to be varied and bold yet consistent and complementary with each other and with existing furnishings.

The client will receive concept and inspiration visuals, samples of paints, fabrics, tiles and other materials will be assembled into palettes which will help pull together an entire home concept whether we consult on one bedroom or a large new build home. The colour consultation is only one aspect of many services which can be added during the project. Often colour is relegated to the end of a project when the builder needs to ‘paint the walls’; but we educate our clients to consider COLOUR from the start as it affects the interplay of all materials and furnishings.

Whether clients hire us at the start or the end of a project or when they move into a new home as rental , using COLOUR is the ultimate and essential way to realise your personal interior tastes, express yourself, lift your mood, change scenes in your rooms and life a happy balanced life in your home. While a full colour consultation will affect every aspect on the interior fit out, repainting a room is an easy affordable and reversible change so we encourage clients to be bold and experimental.
