Summer Residence

Detailing the Brief

The clients like to entertain large groups of family and friends throughout the summer season while in residence and we were invited to design a variety of exterior spaces to accommodate and host groups of twenty guests or more.

The Master Plan

The estate is large enough to build numerous outdoor structures and we worked with a local architect, their topographical survey and a garden designer to determine the layout. The requirement was that guests can eat, swim, play, rest, exercise and roam around the grounds in smaller groups and there should be enough spaces in the sun and the shade so that one can always be together or have some quiet time alone. The garden now offers a playground for little ones, a table tennis hut with games and seating for teenagers and a yoga gym for the adults.

The Pool House

The clients spent their honeymoon in Fiji and brought back local papyrus artworks which we framed and hung as the centerpiece next to the open fireplace in this outdoor shaded entertainment structure. The building is situated on an elevated position and overlooks the grounds and the pool. We designed a U shaped deep seating area which offers shaded relaxation  during the day and can be turned into a party venue for evening invitations. In front of the solid structure is a large dining area deck with a pergola roof. We furnished the building with side tables from Morocco, woven rugs, pebbled floors and wooden outdoor furniture. Different layers of lighting create ambiance at night. One side of the building offers shower and bathroom facilities decorated with shells from the local beach and the other side houses a summer kitchen with fridges, cabinetry and barbecue.
